Scout-Led Program
One of the hallmarks of the Scouting program is that it is “by the youth, for the youth”. This means that the Scouts themselves work together to plan, prepare, and do all of the activities they choose. Adults serve a support function, guiding Scouts toward success in their program.
To adults who are unfamiliar with this model, Scout leadership may seem messy, or inefficient. This is part of the learning process for the Scouts, and is something to be welcomed. An adult with concerns about how the Scouts are operating is usually best served by asking questions, rather than giving direction. This concept is covered in much more detail in BSA Leader Training.
